Anthony Bersamin
For Lincoln City Council - 2024
District 3 - Lincoln Crossing
Lincoln's rich heritage, supportive community, and vibrant local businesses make our city unique. As a candidate for District 3 City Council, I am dedicated to preserving these values while embracing new opportunities for growth. I invite you to explore our website and review our policies to see how we can work together to shape a brighter future for Lincoln.
About Our Campaign
If elected, my goal would be to bring effective, compassionate, and practical solutions to our city's most pressing issues. Don't get me wrong, Lincoln is a fabulous place to live, raise and family and even retire. However, no town is perfect and there are definitely areas that can be improved upon if we work together.
My proposals are outlined in detail below
Here’s my plan to address some of our city's key concerns
Homelessness: Homelessness continues to be a problem that requires ongoing efforts. Especially in a number of specific areas that are well known. There is no simple solution, and it will continue to require a balanced approach. I propose the following measures
Mental Health Services: Increase access to mental health and addiction treatment services to address the root causes of homelessness.
Community Engagement: Create programs that encourage new residents to get involved in community activities and volunteer opportunities with local non-profits like the Lincoln Community Foundation, Lincoln Rotary and Lincoln Kiwanis.
Parks and Recreation: Continue to invest in our parks, recreational facilities, and local community events like our Lincoln 4th of July Parade and our Lincoln Hometown Christmas Parade, to foster a strong sense of community and togetherness.
Environmental Sustainability: Promote initiatives that protect our environment and greenbelt/open spaces, such as recycling programs, and renewable energy projects that utilize more solar and wind.
Training and Equipment: Continue to provide ongoing training and up-to-date equipment to keep our officers and firefighters safe and prepared for any potential emergency. Partnering with our federal, state, and local partners for ongoing training when appropriate, can be extremely beneficial for all agencies involved.
Continued Collaboration with Community Nonprofits and City Staff: Partner with local organizations like the Salt Mine to provide short term shelters, food, and essential services to those in need.
New Residents Moving into Town: As our community grows, it's important to integrate new residents smoothly while preserving what makes Lincoln special. For example, introducing new residents to Downtown Lincoln is crucial. Our downtown area is truly the heart of our city, and many new residents don't even know it exists! From our Lincoln Historical Museum to our many restaurants and cafés, we're extremely lucky to have such an amazing historical district.
Quality of Life: Maintaining our wonderful, family-oriented quality of life in Lincoln is a top priority. Low crime rates are a testament to our professional law enforcement officers and leadership.
Support for Lincoln Police Department and Lincoln Fire Department Agencies: Our police and fire departments are essential to our community's sense of safety and well-being.
Community Policing: Foster strong relationships between our law enforcement officers and the community, especially our youth, through school outreach programs, school resource officers and overall transparency. The more we can improve communication between law enforcement and the community, the safer we'll be.
Job Training Programs: Implement job training and placement programs to help the homeless become self-sufficient long term and eventually, contributing members of our community.
Infrastructure Improvement: Ensure our infrastructure, including utilities, roads, schools, and historic buildings/facilities, can support our growing population.
Smart Development: Promote sustainable and smart growth policies that balance development with the preservation of our beautiful open spaces and greenbelts. These open spaces add to our small town feel and encourage the native wildlife here to continue to flourish.
Local Economy: Support our local small businesses and attract new ones (like Dutch Bros and Trader Joes!) to create jobs and enhance the economic vitality of Lincoln. Let's make a concerted effort to keep more of our tax dollars local!
Adequate Public Safety Funding: Ensure these agencies have the necessary resources to perform their duties effectively. We'll need to continue to work closely with the Lincoln Public Safety Foundation so they can continue to support our police and fire agencies when necessary. The extra funding that has been raised has already been a huge asset. Lincoln has made lots of staffing improvements over the past few years as our economy has improved, and should continue to do so as our community grows.
If you’re able, please take a moment to donate, and help make a difference in our community.
